Basic Allowance For Housing (BAH)

Altus Air Force Base is home to the 97th Air Mobility Wing which provides pilots with quality training producing the most combat-ready troops in the Air Force. Altus Air Force Base is located near Altus, Oklahoma, and offers specific training on the C-17 Globemaster III and KC-135 Stratotanker. Housing on base includes several brand new neighborhoods which offer such amenities as volleyball courts, playgrounds, and numerous parks. One to three bedroom apartments are available off-base as well as rental homes with most utilities included in the rental rate. Home purchase prices start in the mid-150s for potential home buyers. Hotels and motels are available for those seeking a temporary place to stay. Military discounts are offered on home purchases, and more information can be obtained from the housing office including basic allowance for housing amounts and any applicable waiting lists. The majority of those employed at Altus Air Force Base live on base. Many on-base housing offers a one-year lease that continues month to month.
Nearby cities include Friendship and Martha, Oklahoma, and the area has a temperate climate which draws visitors to the area year-round. Altus Air Force Base has a commissary on base which offers discounted groceries for military personnel and their families. Public schools near Altus Air Base include five elementary schools, two middle schools and a high school. The base is home to several units including the 97th Air Mobility Wing. Those units include the 97th Operations Group, the 97th Medical Group, the 97th Maintenance Directorate and the 97th Mission Support Group. Since 2001, Altus has deployed over 150 personnel annually. Altus Air Force Base was first established in 1943 and remains one of the leading air mobility training military facilities in the country.
